Stuck on how to self-check?

When it comes to feeling for changes, you’re going to want to take your hand and feel from your armpit up to your collarbone to see if you notice any unusual lumps or swelling first of all.

Then take your hand across the top, sides and beneath your breast, again feeling for any lumps or thickening as well as any abnormal pain.

If you are experiencing any abnormal pain that persists for longer than 2 weeks or you have any accompanying signs and symptoms listed on this section of our website, contact your GP to get it looked at.

You’ll want to check once a month. If you check too often, you may not notice changes, if you check too infrequently, this allows for changes to creep up on you over time.

It’s always a good idea to check on the 1st of every month.

However, if you are someone who experiences regular periods, it’s best to check mid-cycle when your breasts are less swollen and sore, for example, on day 14 of a 28 day cycle.
